PSP Statistics
  • We are the largest and most comprehensive, family-focused shelter in Minnesota.
  • Two thirds of our guests are children and 31% of guests are under the age of five years old – the face of homelessness is the face of a child.
  • The number of families at People Serving People (PSP) rose 15% in 2008, with an average of 312 guests per day.
  • 47 days is the average stay for a guest.
  • Volunteers shared over 27,000 hours of service, with PSP as Meal Servers, Tutors, Computer Mentors, Roving Readers and in many other capacities in 2008.
  • 220,769 meals were served in 2008.
  • 35 school buses arrive twice a day to take children to their hometown schools.
  • 1,192 children are provided child care and attend developmental programs annually.
  • 519 tutoring sessions are given to children annually.
  • 29 people graduated from our intensive 13-week Workforce Training programs in 2008.

On-Site Facilities and Collaborations
  • 99 emergency shelter rooms and nine two-bedroom supportive apartments.
  • Two licensed Children’s Centers, educating and caring for infants through pre-school.
  • Full-service dining hall serving three meals a day, seven days a week.
  • Medical clinic open five-days a week staffed by certified medical staff.
  • 21 collaborative agencies onsite providing connections to mental and chemical health, housing, employment, literacy, early childhood development and legal aid programs.
  • Minneapolis Public Schools on site ensuring children attend school on time, everyday.
  • Technology center for job and employment searching, or Microsoft Office training.
  • Two libraries stocked with books for children and adults.

Services
  • 24-Hour front desk service for diapers, formula, warm clothing and other basic needs.
  • Access to voice mail and e-mail.
  • Afterschool programs and tutors to assist children with homework.
  • Employment Coordinator to help adults prepare for and find jobs.
  • Family advocates and a social worker to connect families with resources and services.
  • Culinary Arts and Facilities Training Programs for adults.
