PSP Statistics
- We are the largest and most comprehensive, family-focused shelter in Minnesota.
- We are serving 30% more guests today than a year ago and are running close to full-capacity.
- 60% of our guests are children under the age of 18 and the average age of a guest is just 7 years old– the face of homelessness is the face of a child.
- 99,993 nights were spent by 3,207 guests in 2007, the highest number in 5 years.
- Approximately 300 guests are sheltered each night.
- 30 days is the average stay for a guest.
- Volunteers shared 26,792 hours of their time with PSP as Meal Servers, Tutors, Computer Mentors, Roving Readers and in many other capacities in 2007.
- 230,000 meals were served in 2007.
- 35 school buses arrive twice a day to take children to their hometown schools across the county.
- 2,000 children are provided child care and attend developmental programs annually.
- 700 tutoring sessions are given to children annually.
- 58 people participated in our intensive 13-week Workforce Training programs in 2007.
On-Site Facilities and Collaborations
- 99 emergency shelter rooms, eight two-bedroom apartments and one large apartment housing single women.
- Two licensed Children’s Centers, educating and caring for infants through pre-school.
- Full-service dining hall serving three meals a day, seven days a week.
- Medical clinic open five-days a week staffed by doctors and nurses.
- 21 collaborative agencies onsite providing connections to mental and chemical health, housing, employment, literacy, early childhood development and legal aid programs.
- Minneapolis Public Schools onsite ensuring children attend school on time, everyday.
- Two computer labs for children’s homework, job searching, or Microsoft Office training.
- Two libraries stocked with books for children and adults.
Services
- 24-Hour front desk service for diapers, formula, warm clothing and other basic needs.
- 24-Hour access to voice mail and e-mail.
- Tutors to assist children with homework.
- Employment Coordinator to help adults find prepare for and find jobs.
- Family advocates to connect families with the resources needed to stabilize and move on.
- Culinary Arts and Facilities Training Programs for adults to prepare them for above minimum wage jobs in high demand industries.
